Former Democratic Republic of Congo President, Joseph Kabila, has been sentenced to death.
The former head of state was sentenced by a military court on Tuesday, 30. Kabila was convicted of crimes including war crimes, torture, treason, and insurrection. The military tribunal in Kinshasa was presided over by Lieutenant-General Joseph Mutombo Katalayi.
Kabila had earlier condemned the proceedings against him, describing the courts as “an instrument of oppression.” There was no immediate word on Kabila’s location following the military court’s judgment. His current location remains unknown.

The 54 year old was accused of collaborating with Rwanda and M23 rebel group which has now taken control of important cities in eastern Congo after capturing them in a lightning attack in January. However the former president has denied the accusations.
Joseph ruled DRC for 18 years after succeeding his father, Laurent Kabila (who was shot dead 24 years ago).
