Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has passed away following a heart attack. The ODM leader reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest during a morning walk on Wednesday, October 15.

Raila reportedly collapsed during a morning walk at an Ayurvedic hospital where he had been receiving care. He was then rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. His body is currently preserved at the facility. Raila’s death has left many of his supporters and Kenyans at large in great shock. Political leaders and top celebrities have sent their condolences to the friends and family of the former Premier.
Raila leaves behind his wife, Ida Odinga, and three children: Raila Odinga Junior, Winnie Odinga, and Rosemary Odinga.
Odinga, the son of the late Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, served as Prime Minister for five years, from 2008 to 2013. He also served as Member of Parliament for the Langata constituency from 1992 to 2013.
He has vied for the Presidential seat 5 times in which being unsuccessful. His first attempt was in 1997 through the National Development Party (NDP). Raila’s final for the Presidential seat was in 2022 where he was defeated by President Ruto.
